DDFI launches web catalogue program

TORONTO - Upholstery producer Distinctive Designs Furniture Inc. has teamed up with Internet solutions provider ayr1.com and launched a promotion that will allow its retail partners to either strengthen or establish their own presence on World Wide Web.
In a statement, Distinctive said that most members of its retail network have web sites that do not contain catalogues of the products they sell. The new program will allow these stores to not only access Distinctive's catalogue, but those of 2,000 other resources that the Sudbury, Ontario-based ayr1.com hosts.
"At a time of extreme pressures on our retail partners we felt that we must show leadership in helping our retailers cope with the challenging and changing media landscape," Distinctive vice president of sales and marketing Paul Polding said.

"The enhanced search visibility translates into more customers visiting those dealer web sites, since these websites are now virtual showrooms. Experience indicates many pre-shopping clients will leave their contact information in the form of a buyer inquiry. Retail sales staff can then begin each day personally responding to each ayr1 web site generated buyer inquiry for specific product items."
Polding also noted that since consumer often spend as many as 12 hours researching a big ticket purchase on the Internet before stepping into a store, this initiative should give Distinctive's retail network a greater web presence. Using the ayr1.com system means consumers won't be redirected to another retailer after browsing through the manufacturer's catalogue.
At an established price point of $6,000 for each store, this initiative could have a total value of $4 million, considering that Distinctive Designs has a presence on 700 retail floors.
